So, you’ve just walked out of the studio with a fresh piece of art—congrats! Here at Julie Miidnight Tattoo, I want your tattoo to look as stunning in years to come as it does today. Proper aftercare is key to making sure your new ink heals beautifully, so here’s my personal guide to tattoo aftercare to keep your artwork vibrant and strong.

Step 1: Leave the Wrap On

  • After your session, I’ll apply a protective wrap to keep your tattoo safe from bacteria. This covering will also help protect your tattoo from friction.
  • Tip: Leave the wrap on for the recommended time (usually 2–6 hours, or overnight for larger pieces).

Step 2: Gentle Cleaning

  • When: Once you remove the wrap, gently wash your tattoo with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap.
  • How: Use clean fingertips, avoid scrubbing, and be gentle—think of it as a precious piece of art.
  • Drying: Pat the area dry with a clean towel. Rubbing can irritate the skin.

Step 3: Apply a Light Moisturizer

  • To keep the area from drying out, apply a thin layer of a tattoo-friendly ointment or fragrance-free lotion.
  • Less is More: You want to moisturize but avoid overdoing it, as too much can trap bacteria.

Step 4: Protect from the Sun

  • Avoid Direct Sunlight: The sun can fade a tattoo, especially while it’s healing. For the first few weeks, keep your tattoo out of the sun and, once healed, use sunscreen regularly.

Step 5: Avoid Submerging the Tattoo

  • No Swimming: Steer clear of pools, hot tubs, or lakes until your tattoo is fully healed (usually 2–4 weeks).

Step 6: Stay in Touch

  • If you notice redness, swelling, or anything that doesn’t look quite right, reach out. It’s all part of making sure your tattoo heals as beautifully as possible.

Wrapping It Up

Taking care of your tattoo is about showing your new art some love. I’m here to help you keep your ink looking amazing, so don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions or concerns during healing. Enjoy your new art—each piece tells a story, and I’m thrilled to have been part of yours.
